Mapping the Global Python Community
Before we can serve the worldwide Python community, we need to understand it. This initiative creates a comprehensive picture of Python communities across the globe.
The Challenge
Python is used in nearly every country on Earth. But our understanding of the global community has been incomplete.
Which regions have thriving Python communities? Which are just getting started? What languages do organizers need resources in? What barriers prevent participation?
Without this information, the PSF can't effectively support communities beyond the regions it already knows well.
What We're Doing
We're building an outreach map that documents:
- Active Python communities — user groups, meetups, conferences, and informal gatherings
- Regional organizations — PyLadies chapters, Django Girls workshops, regional PyCons
- Community leaders — organizers, educators, and advocates doing the work on the ground
- Gaps and opportunities — regions with Python users but no organized community presence
This isn't just a directory. It's a tool for understanding where support is needed most—and for connecting communities with each other.
How This Helps
For the PSF
Better data means better decisions about where to direct resources, which regions to prioritize for grants, and how to communicate with communities in different contexts.
For Community Organizers
Find other organizers in your region. Learn from communities facing similar challenges. Access resources tailored to your context.
For Pythonistas Everywhere
Discover communities near you. Connect with people who share your interests and background. Feel less alone in your Python journey.
Current Status
We're actively gathering information and building out the map. This is ongoing work that grows as we connect with more communities.
How You Can Help
Know a Python community we should include?
We want to hear about user groups, meetups, conferences, educational programs, and informal gatherings—especially in regions that are underrepresented in global Python spaces.
